What your child has learned has not disappeared
The vocabulary and grammar built elsewhere are still inside your child. Our job is not to start over, but to make what is already there usable. Transferring students rarely begin below their own grade level. A free level test tells you where your child stands today.
Reading and speaking are different muscles
Turning letters into sound (decoding) and assembling thoughts into sentences (composing) draw on different skills. A child who aces vocabulary tests but freezes in front of a foreign teacher is not lacking ability — they have had few places to practise composing. At Huston, whatever is learned must leave the mouth within that same lesson.
Time left before the new school year
Whenever your child joins during the term, they do not start over: they build on what they have already learned and keep practising how to use it in spoken English until the new school year begins in March.
